A Brief History
A.J. Eilers bought a property that surrounded the swimming hole in 1915 and then built a concrete pool. The Deep Eddy Bathing Beach opened as a resort with concessions, camping, and cabins. Today, the pool is a favorite destination for families and groups of friends who want to take refreshing deep in 65° to 75° water.
The city of Austin purchased the property in 1935 for a total of $10,000, equivalent to around $195,000 today. A massive flood destroyed the bathhouse two weeks after the purchase, leaving the pool filled with debris and mud. Check it out
