A Brief History 

Barton Creek Square is a famous enclosed shopping mall in southwest Austin, Texas, near the Texas State Highway Loop 360 and Texas State Highway Loop 1. It is named after the famous Barton Creek, Texas.

The Barton Creek Mall was officially opened to shoppers in 1981 and was originally anchored by Scarborough’s department store, Foley’s Dillard’s, Montgomery Ward, JCPenney, and Sears. This mall became the first shopping center in Texas to have bold print signage and Braille. Site link

In 2003, a renovation added a Nordstrom department store. Further renovations took place in 2013, including the food court redesign. Sears Holdings spun off some of its properties into Seritage Growth Properties, including the Sears located in Barton Creek Square. But in October 2018, Sears announced its closure as part of the plan to close over 140 stores nationwide.

In 2019, Simon Property Group, the mall owner, embarked on renovations, including turf areas, fire pits, canopies, glass handrails, LED lighting, flooring, and a new paint scheme. Also, the renovation included the additional co-working space close to Nordstrom, including workspaces with charging stations and televisions.
