Austin Stone West is a place where a beautiful community is important. The vibrant church comprises young professionals, busy families, married couples, and empty nesters.
In 2011, 2 churches joined together to be the West Congregation of The Austin Stone. From there, the church grows to a multi-generational community of faith wherein anyone can connect, belong, and be led for the glory of God. The Austin Stone West’s Story
How it started
The Austin Stone West started in a small south Austin apartment of Matt and Jen Carter in 2002. Ten people were in the living room on the first meeting, praying for Austin stone’s future. They are longing to become a church rooted in the gospel, with a richness of theological truth and deep compassion for the city. At that time, they prayed Ephesians 3:20 to God and asked Him to do more abundantly than they could ever imagine, and He did.
How it grows
The organization grew from a small apartment to a middle school cafeteria on the South Congress. Then, in Austin High School, after a few years. They are still in Austin High School but meet at other 5 locations across the city.
Despite its expansion, The Austin Stone West keeps its passion. Every congregation and ministry of the group was their vision’s expression – to be people-rooted in biblical truth as well as driven by love for the people around them.
Where are they going
In many years, they have already sent hundreds of people to proclaim the gospel through the nations, equipped parents to lead and care for their kids, and trained thousands of people to live out their faith at home and workplace.
They also partnered with nonprofits to address the needs of people in Austin. The group supported church planters. They will continue to make their visions into reality.
If you visit Austin, you will see historic churches, courthouses, and homes built of white, carved Texas limestone. That rock is also called another name- Austin stone. They stated that their city was built on the Austin Stone.
They hope that God works in amazing ways to transform the lives of the people in Austin.
