The West Lake Fire Department (WLFD) is a fire department located in Austin, Texas, and is one of the oldest and most well-established fire departments in the state. It was established in 1959 as a volunteer fire department and was officially incorporated in 1963.

The West Lake Fire Department began as a group of dedicated volunteers who wanted to provide fire protection services to their community. The first fire station was built on Westlake Drive, which is now known as Station 1. The department’s initial fleet included a single engine, a tanker truck, and a brush truck.

In the early years, the department was entirely staffed by volunteers who provided around-the-clock service. In 1975, the department hired its first paid firefighter, and by the 1980s, the department was a combination department with both paid staff and volunteers. More

Over the years, the department has grown and expanded its services, and today it is a full-service fire department that provides fire suppression, emergency medical services, hazardous materials response, and technical rescue services to the residents of West Lake Hills, Rollingwood, and portions of unincorporated Travis County.

Today, the West Lake Fire Department operates out of four fire stations and has a fleet of 15 fire engines, ladder trucks, and specialized vehicles. The department has over 100 firefighters, paramedics, and support staff who work together to keep the community safe.
